Flow Together, my first solo show and 2022 collection

About the collection

The Flow Together collection is a reflection of the last two years, in which I confronted very turbulent emotions: isolation, struggle and loss. But through the darkness there was also hope, resiliency, community... and love. A school of fish flowing together through unknown territory is much less scary compared to one or two fish going at it by themselves. Whether the environment is dark or light (and more often than not, it is both), let's remember, we're not alone on our journeys.

Usually, when I think of “in flow”, I think of it as a concept based on my individual experience. I am in flow when I surf, or when I paint. But what does it mean to be in flow with others? Can both flows happen at the same time? There’s something really uplifting about feeling connected, in sync, in flow with other human beings and creating beautiful movement together.

And yet we can’t always be in sync. What if a fellow fish bumps into us hard or strays away and messes up the formation? Forgiveness and gratitude seem to be key, for others and ourselves. I do believe that we flow in the same direction - we all have basic, universal needs… for love, understanding, kindness. We are human and we are imperfect (as are the fish in these paintings). Let's try to flow together, shall we?

My first solo show, Flow Together, takes place at Polu Gallery Waikiki at the Sheraton Waikiki from June 17th to 30th, and then moves to the Polu Gallery in Haleiwa town from July 1st to 21st. Thank you to everyone who has shown me such incredible support, and a heartfelt mahalo to those who attended the show’s opening reception last Friday. I felt so loved and supported. The show is a big milestone for me, and comes at a pivotal, transitional period of my life. I am so grateful for my art community and my Hawaii community.

Prints are now available on my website. I am offering the traditional fine art / giclee prints as well as wood prints. Please contact Polu Gallery (info@polugallery.com 808-924-4404) if you are interested in the originals. Will I paint be painting more little fishies? Probably. Will I do another solo show after this? Likely. But right now, I’m going to try to rest, and spend some time refilling the creative well.
