KOHO Chocolates

Paint Chocolates?

“Art is like turning corners, one never knows what is around the corner until one has made the turn.” - Milton Avery

The artist journey constantly requires me to do things I have never done before, and thus, to have faith in myself.

Earlier this year, I was approached by Hawaiian Host to create watercolor paintings of… chocolates! For their new artisan chocolate brand, KOHO. The KOHO pop-up shop is now open at the Ala Moana Center, second floor Ewa end, across from the escalator in front of Old Navy. Treat yourself or your loved ones to these delicious artisan chocolates! (You can purchase the chocolates online as well, on the KOHO webpage.) I created about 20 paintings of their bon bons, chocolate bar, and packaging for use as in-store signage.

If you’re in Honolulu, I highly recommend you visit the shop in person! The vibrant colors and tropical vibe of the shop give off a wonderful ambience. I’m so happy with how the paintings and signs turned out - they look like they fit seamlessly and represent the delicious product so well.

For the shop’s opening which took place at the end of October, I was asked to do a live painting on the tops of 25 square chocolate box lids, arranged together in a 3.5-foot x 3.5-foot mural. I had never painted food products for a commercial project, nor had I ever painted that large before in front of a group of people in under 4 hours. Well I did it! This is what I really love about being an artist… I am constantly confronted with new challenges and I figure it out along the way, learning and growing everyday. I get to create and adapt. I guess this is what I love about being human too :)
